About

Gede Robi (Navicula) is the vocalist, guitarist, and the frontman of the internationally award-winning rock band Navicula, combining activism and music as tools for social change. Formed in 1996 in Bali, they have released 11 full-length studio albums. 

Robi was the main subject of the environmental documentary series and feature film Pulau Plastik which released in Indonesian cinemas in 2021, and was picked up for International distribution on Netflix in 2022, under the title “Plastic Island”. 

In 2023 Robi initiated the Indonesian chapter of Music Declares Emergency (MDE) – an environmental pressure group which aims to raise awareness about climate change through the influence of the music Industry. Under the slogan “No Music On A Dead Planet”, they are currently producing a series of environmental songs with 15 musicians and bands from across the country.

He is also a certified Permaculture designer and teaches organic farming in Indonesia and around Southeast Asia. He lives in Ubud, Bali.

NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET is a global movement of musicians and music lovers coming together to take action on climate. In 2023, along with 13 Musicians and Bands from around Indonesia, Gede Robi co-founded the Indonesia chapter for MDE.

Robi has been speaking at conferences and events on the topics of the environment, arts and musics role in social and environmental campaigns, organic farming, and climate change. He regularly gives seminars and Universities, including UGM, Udayana and Melbourne University. 

Pulau Plastik (Plastic Island)

Pulau Plastik (Plastic Island) is a collaborative campaign to tackle the issue of single-use plastic in Bali and beyond. Pulau Plastik leverages popular culture and includes social media campaigns, public service announcements, video series, and a feature-length documentary to increase awareness about the hazards of single-use plastic, to change people’s behavior and to advocate for change.
